One aspect of driving the Hummer EV that will leave you gobsmacked is its astonishing acceleration. Yes, it can do 0-60 mph in an estimated 3 seconds flat when you’ve engaged the special acceleration mode called “Watts to Freedom” (WTF mode, get it?)–and I can personally attest that this is not just a steep acceleration test. The immense power this vehicle emits is simply stunning, especially considering its reported weight of more than 9,000 pounds. You’ll feel the sheer, massive bulk of the Hummer and the reverberation of the dedicated off-road tires around the cabin as you speed up. While it is speed-limited to 106 mph, you’re likely not to want to go that fast in it anyway. Its acceleration is enough to leave you gobsmacked!

The Hummer EV is incredibly manoeuvrable and agile thanks to its impressive four-wheel steering. Imagine guiding a massive pickup truck around tight bends and off-road tracks, with the back end pushing around whenever you turn your wheel – that’s what the Hummer EV can do with its rear-wheel steering, which allows up to 10 degrees of movement. It means you can effortlessly slide through tight downtown streets and crowded Costco car parks – something you’d need help to do in other full-sized trucks and SUVs. The Ford Bronco attempts to perform similarly to the Hummer EV on off-road surfaces, using selective braking to turn a wheel – but it can only go so far on paved surfaces where you need tight manoeuvres. The Hummer EV excels here – so you can have the most amazing experience driving, even in the closest conditions.

Interior 

Within the Hummer EV, the interior cabin is an interesting balance of form and function. The graphics of the 13.4-inch centre-console touchscreen and the 12.3-inch driver information gauge cluster display are revolutionary, engineered by renowned video game maker Epic Games using its Unreal Engine architecture. Aesthetically pleasing animations appear when switching between modes, and information is displayed in an easily understandable format. The reconfigurable gauge cluster is strikingly designed, and despite being blocked from view from time to time by the round steering wheel, each display shows its value to the user experience. Professionally, the Hummer EV is a glimpse into the future of automotive interior design.

The Hummer EV’s cabin offers plenty of space and comfort. With generously sized, well-bolstered seats and roomy accommodations despite its size, the cabin has been designed to provide a comfortable ride for all those inside. Visibility from the side and rear is good due to the large side mirrors, while visibility out the front may be an issue due to the low windshield. An advantage of the Edition 1 model is its eighteen different camera views, including an underbody camera with a built-in washer nozzle that allows you to easily clear away dust or mud. Overall, the Hummer EV cabin is roomy and well-suited for the professional driver.

Pricing

Despite its impressive level of technology and neat design, the Hummer EV’s interior needs to improve regarding materials quality. At an eye-watering price tag of nearly $112,000, you’d expect a luxurious experience, but unfortunately, this isn’t the case. While GM has demonstrated its ability to create stellar interiors with the Cadillac Escalade, the Hummer EV is let down by the presence of hard plastic and vinyl trim, which drastically detracts from its opulence and luxury. The price of this model reflects the tech and design rather than the splendour of the cabin.
