2023 Honda Civic Type R Review: Fast and Not as Furious-Looking

Introduction

The Honda Civic Type R is the most fun you can have for the money. It’s quick, it handles well, and it looks stylish. And did we mention it sounds like a rally car? If you’re looking for a performance car that won’t break your piggy bank, read on to learn more about the 2023 Honda Civic Type R!

Exterior

Honda Civic Type R is a performance car. It has the looks of one, and it acts like one too. The front grille is wide and angular; the front bumper is aggressive; the fenders are flared and aggressive; even the hood looks ready for action with its bulging flares. The headlights are angular and bold, like an angry bird or something that shoots lasers from its eyes. And then there are those side mirrors—they’re small!

All this aggression can be intimidating to some people who want to go grocery shopping, but you’ll probably get used to it after a while (or maybe not). At least this Civic Type R won’t look out of place next to many other performance cars once you start driving around in it!

Interior

Type R’s signature red-and-black interior follows the exterior’s newfound aesthetic restraint, but the approach follows the exterior’s. Front sport seats offer a more substantial shoulder and thigh bolstering to keep occupants firmly grounded when things get sporty. A revised internal structure also helps promote better body support.

Despite the stiff thigh bolsters, the new seats are fantastic. Even with minimal adjustability, the Type R’s thrones strike the right balance between support for aggressive lateral maneuvers and comfort for long stints at the wheel. Heat would be nice, but it’s a small compromise.

Performance and Driving Impressions

The Honda Civic Type R delivers when you want performance and handling. The car is fast and slower than some other cars. The Type R has a comfortable ride quality that isn’t too soft or too firm; it’s just about right for everyday use. The seats are supportive without being stiff or uncomfortable over long distances, which is something we noticed in our time behind the wheel of this sporty Honda model.

The sound system is pretty impressive but does have decent audio quality. The interior materials feel solid and well-made rather than cheap or flimsy like they often do on lower-priced models such as this one (which retails for just under $30k). You’ll also find plenty of standard features, such as Apple CarPlay support and Android Auto functionality built into each car’s infotainment system—no extra fees are required after purchase!

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has many safety and driver-assistance features to keep you safe on the road.

Forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control are standard on this sedan. Automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, parking sensors, and lane keep assist are available. The 2023 Honda Civic Type R also comes with a driver attention monitor that uses infrared light beams to track eye movement to detect drowsiness or distraction behind the wheel.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Some of the Civic Type R’s warranties and maintenance coverage is a bit unusual, especially for a vehicle as new. For example, its battery pack has an 8-year/80,000-mile warranty and three years or 36,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage. It also doesn’t come with routine maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles after purchase (covered under the car’s powertrain warranty).

Civic Type R may be because Honda is trying to attract customers who don’t want to spend money on repairs, or they’re hoping that everything will go smoothly during those first few years so they don’t have to pay anything out of pocket before their warranties expire. But if something goes wrong before then—and it almost certainly will—you’ll be responsible for paying out of pocket unless you purchased additional repair plans from your dealership when purchasing your vehicle (which we highly recommend!).

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Pricing is another area where the Type R could be a lot better. The base MSRP of $43,990 is reasonable enough; however, you’ll be shelling out an additional $2,200 for the Touring model’s fancy navigation system and either $1,600 or $1,800 for adaptive dampers (depending on which transmission you choose). That brings your total to just over $48K—which starts to make a lot of cars with similar performance more attractive in terms of value. We’d recommend that unless you need that additional feature set or don’t mind paying more for it—and let’s face it: most people won’t care about either one—you should opt for the standard Type R instead of its upmarket sister.

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is the best affordable performance car you can buy.

At a base price of $43,9901, including the $1,095 destination fee, two the Civic Type R starts at nearly ten grand more than a Hyundai Elantra N. However, Type R is essentially one all-inclusive package. Equipping the less-powerful Hyundai similarly narrows the cost gap significantly, as does purchase a Volkswagen Golf R – which is also offered in one fully-loaded specification here in the U.S. – yet it doesn’t provide nearly as nearly as much driving enjoyment as the Civic Type R.

The Civic Type R’s engine is turbocharged and supercharged at once, producing a lot of power with little effort required from you. It’s also one of the fastest cars on the market today: with upgrades available through your dealer or aftermarket parts installed by third parties like us here at Revolution Tuning Center, your car can reach 200 mph without breaking a sweat!

All this power comes at a great price, too—the base model starts at just USD 41k! That’s less than any other new car in its class (and most other brands).

Conclusion

So, what’s the bottom line? The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is a great car. It has amazing power and good handling. The interior is comfortable and high-quality. It’s also packed with features, including advanced safety technology like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking systems. Moreover, it has an excellent warranty and maintenance coverage that will make owning this vehicle easy on your wallet – even if you always drive it hard!
